Ernest Mollex
The culture of the vine, the trade of its wines, the Mollex family of the Country of Seyssel dedicates itself to it for several centuries, since 1359. It is necessary to wait 1931 to see the Maison Mollex registered to the commercial register. It is Ernest and Marguerite Mollex who dash on the market of the wine by being in the first ones to propose some wine in bottle besides the wine loose. Ernest Mollex was a character of character in the methods of the hard school allying will, firmness and taste of the well made work. It is all the battles; in particular those who ended in the creation of the labor syndicate in 1927 and the creation of The AOC Seyssel in 1942.
Margueritte Mollex
It is from this period when the Maison Mollex is going to develop, over the years and generations; first of all thanks to Georges and René Mollex in the 60s, then Jean-Pierre and Jean-Luc in the 80s and today, after the rough disappearances of René and Jean-Pierre in 2006, it is in the tour of Sébastien to pursue the lineage.
Geographical situation :
Seyssel is in 40 km in the North of Aix-les-bains and in 40 km on the West of Annecy. The seysselan vineyard extends over both banks of the Rhône, between the department of Ain (01) and Haute-Savoie (74). Three municipalities constitute the zone of naming: CORBONOD (Ain) SEYSSEL (Ain) SEYSSEL (Haute-Savoie)
Vineyards are planted over the middle-hillsides, between 200 and 400 metres in height, limited on the right bank by a mountain massif (side Ain). The climate: this region is situated in zone moderated with the characters of low mountain ranges, but also the nearness of the Rhone corridor which allows the Mediterranean rise of steams.
History :
It is in the 10th century when the first papers mention the vineyard in the region of Seyssel. It is in 1339 when the closed first one of vineyard is bought on the municipality of Corbonod. In 18th century, the vineyard is mentioned as important culture in this region. The fame of wines of Seyssel was worth to him a golden medal in the exposure of wines of France in 1925. From then on came a preoccupation following diverse laws: law of August 1st, 1905 on the repression of the frauds law of August 5th, 1908 law of August 6th, 1919 of the label of origin and the demarcation. To look for a solution, producer's syndicate was constituted in 1927. It included producers of three municipalities (Corbonod, Seyssel Ain and Seyssel Haute-Savoie). Its purpose was to provoke the judicial and legal demarcation of the vineyard legal successor in the naming Seyssel. It was advisable that the naming Seyssel would indicate the wine of "Dogfish", and the naming Seyssel Mousseux, the wine of "Thumb wheel" and "Dogfish".
The municipality of CORBONOD
The Maison Mollex is situated on the municipality of CORBONOD. It is the very vast municipality, constituted by hamlets that counts approximately 1000 inhabitants, with a 3050 hectare surface. The useful agricultural surface represents 38 % of the total surface, because there is a wide part of forest (45 %). In the geographical point of view, we distinguish three dominant elements :
- - the mountains
- - the valley
- - the activities
The mountains :
It is a morphology of mountain massifs, the highlight of which amounts to 1350 metres. It is about a succession of geologic floors, which allow the formation of sources.
The valley :
It is about a glacial projecting ledge, which varies 2 to 4 km between the foot of the mountain and the valley of the Rhône.
The activities :
The agriculture of Corbonod is directed to two types of activities :
- - the breeding
- - the vineyard
This municipality holds most large surface of the vineyard, with 80 hectares of vineyards.
